To begin this process, a comprehensive environmental scan was conducted as an inventory and assessment of prevention efforts in the State. The scan looked at organizations that provide primary and secondary services to prevent child maltreatment. Information gathered in the initial scan was supplemented with interviews and data collected from staff at numerous prevention organizations and agencies around the State.
The Environmental Scan was organized based on the level of service provided by county across the state. Descriptions of the levels of service can be found below.
Primary Prevention: Before maltreatment occurs.
Secondary Prevention: Immediately following maltreatment.
Tertiary Prevention: Efforts to reduce long-term impact.
Universal: Focus is on everyone, regardless of risk factors.
Selected: Focus is on those identified as at-risk.
Indicated: Focus is on those who are already affected.
